V-belts are one means of transmitting power. They are belts that have a V-shaped cross-section and have become popular in a wide variety of industrial products. Their uses range from light loads (automobiles and farm machinery), to high-load electric power. V-belts have a cross-section with a laterally symmetrical V shape or a trapezoidal ring shape. They are made of rubber, cloth or nylon materials. Rubber V-belts have low-noise, but are not suitable for high temperatures. They are effective for use with shafts that are separated by a short distance or have a high rotational speed ratio. V-belts come in standard and red varieties. Standard V-belts are readily available and long-lasting. Red V-belts are used for transmitting larger amounts of power than the standard type. They are also more stretch resistant, and offer a variety of features such as oil resistance. There are also V-belt types that offer superior antistatic performance and heat resistance.
