Technical Information
Combination of Ball Screws and Support Units
It is necessary to verify compatibility when selecting ball screw support units.
When selecting Support Units for Ball Screws, note that it can be combined if dimensions of bearing installation part on Fixed Side of the Ball Screw [Fig. 1] and bearing I.D of the Support Unit [Fig. 2] are the same.
How to Select Support Units Compatible with Ball Screw?
To ensure compatibility of the support unit with ball screw, it is recommended to follow the steps indicated in the table below.(Example: Ball Screw Series BSS1505 and Support Unit BSW12, this same methodology can be used to configure other ball screw series and support units).
- Step 1 - Confirm that shaft diameter of the Ball Screw (Example: 15 mm).
- Step 2 - Confirm that dimension of the bearing installation part on fixed side of the Ball Screw (Example: 12mm).
- Step 3 - Determine that corresponding bearing I.D of the Support Unit (Example No.12).

Shape of Support Units
Lineup of Fixed-side and Support-side Support Units
The Fixed side is the side that secures the ball screw shaft. The fixed side normally stands for the side that the motor is installed.
The Support side merely supports the ball screw shaft, and is not fixed to a ball screw shaft.

Application example
In Type with Retaining Ring, the bearing won't slide out of the end of the Support Unit.
Precautions on Support Unit Installation
When inserting ball screws into fixed side support units, some cases will be slip-fit and others may be light press-fit cases.
In case of a light-press fit, do not force the bearing onto the screw shaft in a tilted manner, or do not strike the bearing inner ring and support unit housing
If there is any irregularities between the screw shaft and bearing inner ring, do not insert the ball screw forcibly, remove the screw at once and correct the swell on the shaft, then try reassembling.
