Locating Positioning
LOCATING PINS
Elements that help fixture parts in a workstation to allow machining or other similar industrial process to be performed in a repeatable and uniform manner. Have different machining, geometries and/or bores, as required by the application.
Applications
Locating pins are used in various industrial sectors where it is necessary to secure and precisely position components, tools or parts in a machine or system:
- Automotive industry: used for aligning and fastening parts during vehicle assembly, such as bodies, panels, engine and transmission components.
- Electronics manufacturing: In the production of electronic devices, locating pins help position and secure printed circuit boards (PCBs), connectors and other components in the assembly stages.
- Mold and die industry: Essential, as ensure precise alignment of the mold or die halves, guaranteeing consistent, high quality production.

Example No.000014
The assembly shown corresponds to a positioning table
for different workpieces.
The locating pins used ensure that the workpiece is
always positioned in the same position.

Types
Locating pins are used in a wide range of industrial sectors where positioning accuracy and repeatability are crucial to the quality and efficiency of manufacturing processes.

SHANK STYLE
The shank style defines the method of attachment of the locating pin, here are the styles available from MISUMI:
SHAPES
The shape of the head is the most important characteristic to consider when selecting the locating pin.
Commonly used for its versatility in all types of applications, it can be used to place a surface at a
specific height.
Recommended to avoid impact damage to parts.
Reduces jamming compared to when using two round pins.
Especially helpful when the part requires a radial location.

Materials and Finishes
Locating pins can be manufactured in 4 different options.
- Higher Hardness
- Heat treatment options
- Económical
- Good machinability
- Increased corrosion resistance
- Appearance and hygienic properties
- Slight
- Malleable and can be easily machined
- Friendly with materials Not
- Heat conductive
We also handle different options that cover a quite high range in terms of protection of the components against the different harmful elements in the environment such as dust, humidity or corrosion.
Material | Surface finish | Features |
---|---|---|
Carbon steel | Pavonado | It provides a black color appearance and greatly improves its corrosion resistance. |
Electrodeless nickel plating | It improves its resistance to corrosion, but to a lesser extent than bluing. | |
Black chrome | It provides a more aesthetic finish and performs very well as a driver. | |
Aluminum | Light Anodized Dark Anodized |
• Increased resistance against abrasives • Increases the durability of aluminum • Allows for easy cleaning • Does not fade |
Stainless Steel | Hard chrome plated Polished surface |
It increases hardness and adds great resistance to wear and corrosion.. |
