Plain Self Lubricating Bearings

Linear Motion

PLAIN SELF LUBRICATING BEARINGS

Reduce friction between two moving surfaces, such as a shaft and housing, allowing smooth and trouble-free sliding. Unlike conventional bushings, self-lubricating bushings are designed to operate without the need for additional lubrication. These bushings contain a built-in solid lubricating material that is gradually released during movement, providing a lubricating layer between mating surfaces.

Applications

Plain self lubricating bearings, can be used in a wide range of industries and applications where low-friction, maintenance-free operation is desired. These bearings are designed to operate without the need for external lubrication, making them suitable for various environments and conditions.

  • Industrial Machinery: In manufacturing and industrial machinery, they can be found in conveyor systems, cranes, and various types of machinery where continuous lubrication maintenance would be impractical.
  • Oil and Gas: These bearings are employed in the oil and gas industry for applications like drilling equipment, valves, and pumps.
  • Mining: Self-lubricating bearings can handle the demanding conditions of mining equipment, including high loads, dust, and dirt.
  • Food and Beverage: In the food industry, where cleanliness and hygiene are critical, self-lubricating bearings are used in conveyor systems, food processing equipment, and packaging machinery.
  • Medical Equipment: They are used in medical devices and equipment where maintenance-free operation and low friction are essential.
  • Renewable Energy: Self-lubricating bearings find applications in wind turbines, solar tracking systems, and hydropower equipment.
  • Railway and Transportation: In the railway industry, self-lubricating bearings are used in wheelsets, couplers, and suspension systems.
  • Material Handling: Conveyor systems, forklifts, and other material handling equipment often use self-lubricating bearings for smooth and reliable operation.
  • Pumps and Compressors: Reduce friction and extend the lifespan of components.
  • Hydraulic Systems: They are used in hydraulic cylinders and valves to reduce friction and enhance performance.
  • Power Generation: For power generation equipment, including turbines and generators.

In this application we have a mechanism to hold a part by
means of a clamp, where the bushings, thanks to their
function, allow a linear sliding movement.

The selection and configuration of the bushing will depend on the requirements of the application and the equipment on which it is to be used.

  • Straight: Designed to slide directly onto a shaft or into a housing, without the need for additional support.

  • Shouldered :Offers a solid and stable base for the hub. Provides structural support and helps maintain proper alignment between the axle and housing, preventing unwanted deflection or vibration.

  • Flanged: Provides additional support and facilitates attachment of the bushing to the housing or machine assembly. The flange can have screw holes for more secure installation.

  • Block Pillow : Used to support and align shafts in various applications. It provides a solid and stable base for the bushing, ensuring that the shaft is in correct alignment and support.

  • Open Type: Used directly in applications where an external housing is not required. Their caseless design makes them versatile and adaptable to different applications and geometries.

Self-lubricating bushings eliminate the need for periodic lubrication, reducing maintenance and machinery downtime. In addition, self-lubrication minimizes the possibility of failure due to insufficient or excessive lubrication.

Materials

Self-lubricating bushings can be made from a variety of materials, depending on the specific application and requirements. Each material has its own characteristics and benefits, and the correct selection depends on factors such as load, speed, environmental conditions and bushing life requirements.

  • Graphite impregnated brass: Good load carrying capacity, excellent wear and abrasion resistance, helps reduce friction. Suitable for clean room applications.

  • Bronze: Offers good resistance to wear, abrasion and breakage. Operate at high speeds, low load capacity.

  • Alloy Steel: Ideal for low, low-moderate speeds. Good in oscillations. Have good wear resistance.

  • Resin: Abrasion resistant and load bearing capacity. Operate at high speeds. Comply with food sanitation standards.
